The Finance department provides Channel 4 with financial support and advice, ensuring the Corporation’s advertising revenue is working hard to deliver our public service,
creative and commercial ambitions.

This role will sit in the financial control team, led by the Financial Controller. The financial control team:

• work with all areas of the organisation, giving financial guidance on financial reporting, investments and all general finance matters
• manages short and long term financial forecasting for the Corporation in line with the Channel 4 strategy;
• leads our internal and external reporting processes;
• provides accounting, treasury, tax and procurement support to the group, and management accounting and analysis for a number of departments;
• develops and maintains our financial systems; and
• Manages payments, royalties, expenses and revenue collections for the group

The financial control team is a team of 25 within the overall finance department of approximately 50.

The Tax and Treasury Accountant position is primarily focused on the Corporation’s tax compliance responsibilities and supporting the Treasury function. Working as part of a
small team, the successful candidate will support the Tax and Treasury Manager in all areas of the Corporation’s tax and treasury operations, ensuring these are administered
in a timely, efficient and effective manner and in accordance with the Corporation’s control procedures; and to provide technical support to the wider Finance team.

The Tax function is responsible for compliance with tax legislation across all areas of the Channel 4 Group, including Corporation tax, VAT, employment taxes and the annual
SAO certification process. It provides support to the finance team and the wider business as and when specific matters arise where tax may be an issue.

The Treasury function is responsible for Treasury processes in all areas for the Channel 4 Group, leading the Treasury Risk Committee process and preparing and presenting the
monthly pack at the meetings, managing the daily cash and investment position for the Group and monitoring liquidity.

To support the Tax and Treasury Manager in meeting all tax compliance and reporting deadlines, including:
• Preparation of direct and indirect tax returns and payments, including Corporation Tax, VAT and PSA
• Preparation of tax disclosures for the annual financial statements and any necessary accounting papers
• Assisting with the Senior Accounting Officer certification process
• Drafting tax updates for the Audit Committee
• Dealing with ad hoc queries from HMRC or from within the business in respect of direct, indirect and employment taxes
• Supporting the HR team on employment tax matters including benefits in kind and employment status / IR35 queries

• Support the Tax and Treasury Manager in preparing the monthly Treasury Risk Committee (TRC) report focused on market updates, monthly treasury activity, counterparty
credit risk, investment strategy, and FX exposure and hedging strategies
• Daily cash and investment management across bank accounts and money market funds
• Maintain cash balance, forward contract and interest schedules and prepare month end treasury related journal postings and the revaluation of derivatives and currency accounts
• Proactively liaise with the business to identify FX exposure, forecast dollar and euro cash flow

• Subject to business needs, the role may evolve over time and involve further work to support the financial reporting functions, including involvement in the annual
reporting process, treasury management, and ad hoc analyses / projects to support accounting and business decisions.

• Robust and accurate daily cash management
• Build a strong relationship with the management reporting team and other key finance personnel
• Gain an understanding of Channel 4 departments and how they contribute to Group performance and cash flow
• Ability to build a strong relationship with the management reporting team and other key finance personnel
• Ability to review large amounts of data and determine relevant information to be presented to Senior Management
• Working cooperatively, exchanging information with and supporting the wider finance team to achieve treasury goals
• Support the Tax and Treasury Manager and Financial Controller with clear and meaningful analysis
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve Tax and Treasury reporting , processes and systems
• Able to prioritise workloads and achieve deadlines


Technical & Professional Skills
• Part qualified - Newly qualified accountant (CTA, ACA or ACCA preferable)
• Basic knowledge of direct, indirect and employment taxes (either through study or experience), with an interest in the broader finance function
• Practical accounting experience
• Intermediate to advanced excel skills
• Flexible and able to work to tight deadlines
• Keeps up to date on current internal and external procedures and regulations
• Demonstrable ability to improve / give valuable contribution to improvement in systems and processes

Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated team player
• Respect for established procedures but ability to challenge as appropriate and identify improvements

Relationship Management (internal, External)
• Liaise with broader finance team to understand and reach conclusions on tax sensitive transactions

• Able to present complex analysis in a clear and commercially-focused and user friendly manner

• Media industry experience and enthusiasm
• Experience of Oracle financials and Hyperion Planning
• Knowledge of Oracle ERP and Alphatax advantageous but not essential
• Treasury knowledge/experience advantageous but not essential
